The 2025 edition of the European Biomass Conference & Exhibition (EUBCE), held from June 9 to 12, brought together leading experts, companies, and institutions to discuss the future of sustainable biomass. One of the event’s most dynamic highlights was Algae Day on June 11 — a full day of sessions dedicated to algae, co-organized by the European Algae Biomass Association (EABA) and Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU).
The day featured three sessions showcasing innovative companies, breakthrough products, and the many applications of microalgae and macroalgae. Discussions explored how algae are reshaping production and consumption models — serving as sustainable feedstock for high-value applications in food, feed, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, bio-stimulants, materials, biofuels, and even wastewater treatment.
Among the featured presenters were EABA members such as Microphyt, AlgaEnergy, Fitoplancton Marino, and Neste, highlighting real-world use cases and commercial viability.
In addition to product-focused sessions, a roundtable addressed market uptake of algae innovations, while a compelling plenary talk titled “Algae, the Strategy to Produce Commodities under Economically Viable Conditions” tackled the strategic value of algae in future green economies.
Special thanks were extended to contributors including Carlos Unamunzaga, Pilar Llorente Ruiz de Azua, Mónica Pérez-Cabero, Ph.D., Hervé Jacqz, Derek Latil de Ros, Hanne Auganes, Dr. Zouhayr Arbib, Carmela Pérez Calleja, Ricardo Arjona Antolin, and especially to Kyriakos Maniatis, for his continued support and leadership in advancing the algae sector.
📌 Session Highlights:
