Monaco, June 13, 2025 — The transformative potential of seaweed took center stage today during the Seaweed Session at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum, held in the Principality of Monaco. The session was moderated by Adrien Vincent and featured leading voices in the algae sector, including Vitor Verdelho, Secretary General of the European Algae Biomass Association (EABA), and Véronique Raoul of Inalve.
The discussion focused on how the success of microalgae can inspire the rapid and sustainable growth of the seaweed industry. Key themes included driving innovation, supporting emerging seaweed initiatives, and developing scalable, eco-friendly applications across sectors.
“A bright future is opening up for seaweed,” said Verdelho. “At EABA, together with our partners and members, we’re fully committed to unlocking its full potential.”
The session also served as an energizing lead-up to the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, setting the stage for algae to gain a more prominent role in global ocean sustainability efforts.
The Global Seaweed Coalition provided a comprehensive summary of the event, which can be accessed here.
